Package: dpkg-dev Version: 1.14.18 Severity: wishlist Hello,
in the thread of discussions about enhancing handling the patches the idea rised to enhance visibility of patches residing outside the debian dir but in random upstream code. Even if it might be easy to inspect the diff.gz by several means several developers stated that they tend to ignore this and rather only inspect the debian directory. To alert those people I came up with an idea starting at http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2008/05/msg00600.html. So please add a --verbose/-v option to 'dpkg-source -x' that performs lsdiff -z -x '*/debian/*' *.diff.gz to point potential maintainers / bug fixers to patches that reside outside of the debian directory. It would be even better if a config file option would be parsed that enables to switch on this option by default. Kind regards and thanks for maintaining dpkg-dev Andreas. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (501, 'testing'), (50, 'unstable'), (5, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-3-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages dpkg-dev depends on: ii binutils 2.18.1~cvs20080103-4 The GNU assembler, linker and bina ii bzip2 1.0.5-0.1 high-quality block-sorting file co ii cpio 2.9-13 GNU cpio -- a program to manage ar ii dpkg 1.14.18 package maintenance system for Deb ii libtimedate-perl 1.1600-9 Time and date functions for Perl ii lzma 4.43-12 Compression method of 7z format in ii make 3.81-4 The GNU version of the "make" util ii patch 2.5.9-5 Apply a diff file to an original ii perl [perl5] 5.8.8-12 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii perl-modules 5.8.8-12 Core Perl modules Versions of packages dpkg-dev recommends: ii build-essential 11.3 informational list of build-essent ii gcc [c-compiler] 4:4.2.2-2 The GNU C compiler ii gcc-4.0 [c-compiler] 4.0.3-7 The GNU C compiler ii gcc-4.1 [c-compiler] 4.1.2-19 The GNU C compiler ii gcc-4.2 [c-compiler] 4.2.3-5 The GNU C compiler ii gcc-4.3 [c-compiler] 4.3.0-3 The GNU C compiler -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
