There is no need to replace madwifi-source with anything; ath5k is included in the 2.6.25 linux image: $ modinfo -k 2.6.25-2-686 ath5k filename: /lib/modules/2.6.25-2-686/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath5k/ath5k.ko version: 0.1.1 (EXPERIMENTAL) license: Dual BSD/GPL description: Support for 5xxx series of Atheros 802.11 wireless LAN cards. ... To use ath5k in preference to madwifi, it is necessary to remove madwifi-tools or modify the blacklist installed by madwifi-tools to: /etc/modprobe.d/madwifi I am not sure how well ath5k is working currently, but sure do hope it becomes a good successor to the bug prone madwifi driver soon.
