Even if UW-imap is no longer maintained (which might very well be the 
result of the above mentioned layoff), a copy of the c-client code is 
included with the alpine project, so I guess at least the library part 
will still be maintained in the future.

It makes best sense for me for the bug to be fixed with UW-imap, applied 
as a patch here locally for the Debian package.

It _also_ makes sense to file a separate bug against php-imap requesting 
to improve code there. But I suspect that to take longer.

I am not able to code a fix for UW-iamp. Help is much appreciated!
