Whereas the <null> folder names can be fixed by an updated sidebar patch
(see my other mails)...

... this is a totally different issue (maybe this bug needs to be
cloned?). As far as I observed the new(?) behaviour I get only those NEW
mails counted in the sidebar that are really new. With 'really new' I
mean mails that have never been viewed by any mail client before -- or
with other words simply those mails, which mutt flags with an 'N', and
not with an 'O' on a folder index page. For the folder I'm currently
viewing the sidebar counts those messages, which mutt flags with an 'O'
too. (For an explanation of these 'N's and 'O's I'm referring to read
the mutt manual chapter 3.1.1 Status Flags.) As mutt re-flags
'N'-messages as 'O'-messages on exiting a folder it looks like mutt
forgets the count of new mails in the sidebar.
