I have just done a fresh install of carmetal, and when I first ran it (from
the command line), a blank untitled window appeared, and CPU was at 100%
until I killed carmetal.
Running it then from the menu showed some startup splash window for a
brief period, and then nothing.
Running it from the menu once more resulted in the same blank untitled
window with 100% CPU.
Since then, the startup splash window has not made another appearance.

Unfortunately, i cannot test on sun java jre. But i have experienced
this kind of unexpected behaviour with ibm java6. On top on java5
carmetal works better for me.
Can you please test on sun-java5-jre (install it and set it as default
java). If this works better, i will change dependance for java5.
