2:4.6.2~git20080311-1 has debian/patches/mc.ext/01_tar_forgot_arg.patch which is broken: tar tvvf - %f should be tar tvvf - < %f as in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=19;filename=mc.ext.diff;att=1;bug=381353 and in older versions of the package. Current version breaks viewing of all .tar files.
