irssi should have an automatic connect list, if not then it would be usefull to report it against irssi as wishlist. With XChat you can simply define and autoconnect to as many server as you want to. This "multiserver" behaviour which you describe comes from psybnc and is more an very ugly hack - Servernames as namespaces.. The upstream authors and myself don't think that this feature would be very usefull (because it's a hack ;)).
