ok, thanks for this info.
A good test (for the trace) would be to:
- kill hald
- unplug the UPS' USB cord
- restart hald in debug mode ("hald --daemon=no --verbose=yes")
- wait for it to enumerate everything, and then only, plug back the UPS' USB
cord.
