Would it not be possible to add the book back in? Of course people can go and find it at samba.org, but if it was good enough to include before, it should still be. OTOH the 3rd ed. is out and maybe that's why they removed the 2nd ed. from the tarball. Otherwise, I think it would be better to adjust the link in /usr/share/doc/samba-docs/htmldocs/index.html to point to http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/toc.html, rather than removing it altogether.
