Xfce, no Compiz. I'm going to puzzle you even more: after a few days of being away from the computer, I started pokerth today and could not reproduce the problem. This is with NO changes since the weekend -- even the same X session. No aptitude upgrades. Same apps running. (Firefox, deluge bittorrent, some rxvts.)
