OK. After checking, the merge seems reasonable, as explained here:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/abiword/+bug/202174/comments/24

Two differeces, libgnomeui and gnomevfs, can be neglected. The former
one is just to use GNOME toolbar, which is already replaced by
GtkToolbar. The latter has already disappeared in all Makefiles.

Two differences left:
- libgucharmap: to use gucharmap widget for symbol insertion dialog.
(Fine, but currently crashes if closed without choosing any char)
- libgoffice: I'm not sure about this. One thing I heard about was
  collaborative editing.

According to Ubuntu, this repacking, at least for the merge of abiword
and abiword-plugins, allows some useful plug-ins to be shipped by
default, such as ODF filter.
