I've been having this same issue for a few days now. It looks like it
was an ABI compatibility issue in my case. I removed the package
audacious-crossfade and now audacious works fine.

Looking through the repository now I see no package named
audacious-crossfade so it's either an old package that got removed or
one that I got from somewhere other than the standard repository.

If you need to check which audacious packages you have installed you can
check the output of:

dpkg -l 'audacious*' | grep ^i

I currently have audacious, audacious-plugins, and
audacious-plugins-extra installed with no problems.
