I'm experiencing the same hangs in X with the latest two version of the Radeon driver (1:6.9.0-1+lenny1 and 1:6.9.0-1) as reported by Juergen Kosel: unresponsive keyboard but mouse still moving and 100% CPU usage by the X process.
