Hi Guillame, I'm glad you like it! Your problem seems very strange. Needless to say, it works for me without any hitch. Are you making sure that you don't hold the space/p key for too long? Do you have any other problem with any other shortcut key? You can also try to launch gnome-mplayer from a console with the command:
gnome-mplayer --reallyverbose Afterwards, check what are the messages you are getting when you press these keys and please report them here. Every time you press the space/p key there should be one and only one "send command = pause" being reported, and when you press them again there should be one and only one "send command = seek" being reported.
