I just stumbled upon this myself, and discovered that it was reproducible for me using the following procedure: 1) Load a web page 2) Hit '/' to bring up the search interface. Enter a few random characters until the "Search:" entry box turns red (i.e., firefox tells you it can't find the characters) 3) Load a different web page, one which also does not contain the sequence of characters entered above. 4) Hit F3 to search for the same sequence of characters. The search interface will appear with a red search box, indicating that FireFox searched for, but did not find, the same sequence of characters. 5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 one more time 6) Without removing the search interface (i.e., don't press Esc or similar), hit '/'. You will not see any reaction from firefox. 7) Move your mouse.
