Package: libgtk2.0-0
Version: 2.12.11-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

This problem manifests itself on a laptop display, 1680x1050, 15" widescreen.
Here are the specs from xdpyinfo:
screen #0:
  dimensions: 1680x1050 pixels (331x207 millimeters)
  resolution: 129x129 dots per inch

I have a fresh lenny install, and no .gtkrc files in my home directory. Some
fonts are massive by default, which looks a bit silly, as well as being
inconvenient. However, it's only certain GTK fonts that are affected. For
example, everything in rhythmbox is affected. In iceweasel, the menu bar and
tab bar are affected, but the actual web page is fine (different renderer?).

I assume this is something to do with libgtk trying to compensate for the
130dpi by making the font larger. Leaving aside the principle of whether this
is desirable behaviour (I chose a high resolution display to get more on
the screen, not have fonts automagically change size), I think it's
over-compensating. But really it shouldn't compensate at all, in my opinion.
I have a 100dpi 1680x1050 display on another machine, running the same
software, and it's fine.

Of course, this may not be a libgtk bug, but I assume it is, as default fonts
in non-gtk apps are fine (nice and small on this screen). I have taken a
couple of screenshots to illustrate[1]. Please let me know if I can provide any
more useful information about my setup in order to debug this.

Antony
