I now do this, which fixes the problem: Acquire::http::proxy "http://localhost:3142/";; Acquire::http::proxy::packages.debian.org "DIRECT"; Thanks for your bug report, it helped me figure out what to do. My guess is that aptitude changelog used to fetch from bugs.debian.org but now fetches from packages.debian.org.
