Hi Jeff,
These encoding issues have been fixed in version 5.3.x of Sympa ; we now
use alternate CPAN modules that don't alter SMTP headers fields.

Package: sympa
Version: 5.2.3-1.2+etch1
Followup-For: Bug #302601
Example of sympa subject line that displays incorrectly:
Subject: [dummy_list] =?UTF-8?Q?Karm=C3=AA?= =?UTF-8?Q?Ch=C3=B6ling?=
Example of direct message subject line that displays correctly:
Subject: =?UTF-8?B?S2FybcOqIENow7ZsaW5n?=
The subject line "should" appear "Karme Choling" with a grave (iirc)
over the 'e' and an umlaut over the 'o'. What happens with the incorrect
version is that the space between the words is lost, i.e.
"KarmeCholing".
