Package: sarg
Version: 2.2.5-1
Severity: normal

>From the FHS:

"The /etc hierarchy contains configuration files. A "configuration
  file" is a local file used to control the operation of a program;
it must be static and cannot be an executable binary"

sarg places the images which are to be referenced from the generated
graphs into /etc/squid/images, but these are not conffiles and should
be in /usr/share/images/sarg instead. Fonts, placed similarly in
/etc/squid/fonts, should be moved to /usr/share/fonts - or better yet,
an appropriate dependency introduced, and fonts from one of the
plethora of Debian font packages should be used directly.

In general the location and naming of files seems dodgy. Should the
files in /etc not be in /etc/packagename: i.e. /etc/sarg rather than
in /etc/squid. Fortunately for my personal case this directory is
empty, as squid keeps it's configuration in /etc/squid3, but this
will often not be the case and the mixing of configuration from
two packages could cause confusion for the administrator.

Further confusion could also be garnered from the naming of individual
files.

Three files in /etc/squid are called as follows:
 - sarg.exclude_codes
 - sarg.hosts
 - sarg.users

In a nice trap for the unwary administrator, these three files are *all*
exclude lists. Renaming them would seem an appropriate measure:
 - sarg.exclude_codes
 - sarg.exclude_hosts
 - sarg.exclude_users
particularly as the file names would then match the names of the
actual sarg configuration options!

Thanks,
                                        Andrew McMillan.
