I've been getting this series of messages in the logs every once in a while. This morning, the program mentioned is aptitude. Three days ago, it was dialog. A month ago, there were a bunch from dialog, and a few from w3m. W3m is linked against libgpm2, the others aren't. I've seen messages of this flavour (info, info, err, I die) going back more than 1 year.
For some reason which I can't justify, I've thought it was acpid running out of file descriptors, and so I would restart the acpid daemon when I got one of these messages. Looking through the bug reports of acpid, I don't see anything remotely like this. I could easily be wrong about what causes these sets of 6 message lines in the logs. But the name of the program varies. On my computer, the program which most often shows up is dialog. I haven't been running dialog based programs much in the last while, since TUI screens aren't being written to properly by dialog (they seem to work fine in xterms and such). Sorry, I haven't filed a bug report against dialog on the screen behavior. Okay, I just ran orphaner on tty1, it uses dialog. That triplet of messages showed up in the log. I'm inclined to think this could have something to do with long uptimes. It has been more than 270 days since I last did a reboot, but I have done lots of package upgrades. But, if you have any ideas on tracking this down, I can do it reproducibly with any dialog based program, and maybe some others.
