When I run s2mem, laptops suspends as expected, screen blanks, and power led 
starts blinking; 
afterwards, when I press power button to wake the laptop, power and HDD leds 
remain steadily on for
a few seconds, then the laptop goes to soft-off (screen remains off).

Tried from single user mode with no X and no framebuffer - same result.
