Yup, upstream looked at this issue: swig generated a huge c++ wrapper code and it takes a lot of memory.
1.2 GB is not that much for a compiler, I managed to get much higher with C++ generative programming (expression templates...) using Boost might get you there ;) We decided to drop the platforms where we have the failures for now.
