Hello Daniel and Maintainer,

I have a similar problem but the Problem from Daniel depend on the
Client HOW it access the Maildir...

And yes, "offlineimap" is slow while "mutt" is fast and the perl module
"libnet-imap-simple-perl" works with lightspeed

How can this be?

I have tested the stuff and following occurs:

1) offlineimap
offlineimap connect to the imap server and courier-imap move the
messages from the subfolder /new/ to /cur/, offlineimap get the list
and begin to sync with the local folder. Now while trying to sync, a
new messages come into the maildir /new/ subfolder and offlineimap
detect this and request a new list while courier-imap move the NEW
message from /new/ to /cur/... This is eating time!

2) mutt
It depends on HOW you have configured mutt
   A) if you use "unmailboxes *" and you select a folder, courier-imap
first move new messages from /new/ to /cur/ and send you the list.
   B) if you have setup "mailboxes <1stbox> <2ndbox> ..." mutt connect
immediately to the boxes and courier-imap move all messages from
/new/ to /cur/. Sometimes if I was several times not on my IMAP
and have several 10000 messages in the folders I could think,
courier-imap is killing my 15000 RpM SCSI drives... courier-imap
works loud as the hell while moving several 10.000 messages from
over 200 folders defined in "mailboxes ..."
Since mutt poll the "defined" mailboxes in the background, it is
      very fast.

3) libnet-imap-simple-perl (and libmail-imap-perl)
The access is defined (by you/programmer) and courier-imap does only
stat or move messages, if you LIST the mailfolder.

So my solution would be, if "offlineimap" request only one LIST, sync
the messages and then go to the next defined folder for syncing and ONLY
AFTER completeing a full run, LIST again. This will speed up things.

Thanks, Greetings and nice Day/Evening
