Hi Whilst looking at #502625 I discovered info relevant to this bug.
On my desktop (which was installed mid 2005, from what looks like Sarge media [install log shows kernel 2.6.8-2-386]), the dm_* modules aren't loaded automatically. (/etc/init.d/lvm2 loads dm_mod, nothing loads dm_mirror, dm_log or dm_snapshot). In a VirtualBox vm installed as Etch, upgraded to Lenny dm_mod, dm_mirror, dm_log, dm_snapshot are all loaded even before lvm2 is installed.
