It is a gcc bug, yes (one should be filed; I prodded an ia64 porter about it, but I think I'll file it myself). However, I'm not counting on it getting fixed for Lenny (or rather, I don't want to count on getting it fixed for Lenny), hence a workaround is needed on netmaze if netmaze is to be released with Lenny.
