Iceweasel 3 has the ability to disable plugins in the GUI (Tools -> add-ons). I want to disable libtotem-complex-plugin.so, because it fails to play most real audio streams. I prefer to use the actual real audio player plugin (nphelix.so). But When you disable libtotem-complex-plugin.so, and go to a page with embedded real content (e.g. bbc.co.uk) iceweasel says that no plugin is installed to play the content, even though nphelix.so is listed in about:plugins and set to be enabled in the GUI. The only work around I now of is to delete libtotem-complex-plugin.so manually from the disk so it is not detected at all. This is not really optimal, since every time the package is upgraded, it puts the plugin back again.
