In both Iceape and Iceweasel CPU usage rises to 100% when I go to web pages
with Flash animations. For instance, this page caused 100% CPU usage:
http://www.howtoforge.com/traditional_dns_howto
When I removed the file /usr/lib/flashplayer-mozilla/libflashplayer.so, the
problem disappeared. So the problem is definitely the proprietary
flashplayer-mozilla which I downloaded from debian-multimedia.org.
After I removed flashplayer-mozilla and installed the gnash flashplayer and
went to the same webpage, I noticed that gtk-gnash was using roughly 40% of my
CPU. So I uninstalled gnash.
Then I installed swfdec-mozilla. When I go to the same webpage, the CPU usage
rises to 10% briefly, then goes to 1-3%. If I play a youtube video, the CPU
usage rises above 50% usage, but then falls after the video ends, whereas with
both proprietary flash and gnash the CPU usage never fell until I closed the
webpage which had the flash animation. Unfortunately swfdec doesn't
automatically run the flash animations when I load a webpage. Instead it just
shows a big right arrow and I have to click on the arrow to get the animation
to run. Really annoying.
I'm using Lenny, Iceweasel 3.0.3, kernel 2.6.26-1-686.
