ok, maybe. I didn't realize that this was that much of a difference.

I know that, but I really dislike switching to another folder from
within mutt since this marks all unread messages as old, and also loses
me the position I had in that folder - quite a nuisance when you have
more than a handful of messages in such a folder, as I regularly have
(eg. for mailing lists). Therefore I have created a list of aliases
which are much like

mutt -f somefolder

with varying values of "somefolder", which gives me the added benefit
of having them all open in parallel.
