Package: postgresql-common
Version: 91
Severity: wishlist

Hello Martin,

it would be great if pg_upgradecluster supported --no-port-switch. This
should then be augmented by a pg_switchclusterports script. This would
be useful in the following scenario:

- existing cluster
- run pg_upgradecluster --no-port-switch
- test new cluster on new as-yet unused port while
users can still use the old cluster as usual
- if satisfied
  - disconnect users from old cluster
  - if necessary run pg_upgradecluster again, then without --no-port-switch
     or
  - if not necessary simply run "pg_switchclusterports 8.1 main 8.3 main"

Does that make sense ?

Thanks,
Karsten
