The fontforge.desktop file created by Debian is incorrect. It does not include the mime-types that fontforge can open. This means that Gnome and KDE cannot know to offer FontForge as an option for opening FontForge's own SFD format, or for TrueType, OpenType or PostScript fonts. The following line needs to be added to the fontforge.desktop file that Debian includes: MimeType=application/vnd.font-fontforge-sfd;application/x-font-ttf;application/x-font-type1;application/x-font-bdf;application/x-font-pcf;application/x-font-tex; The source package includes it's own fontforge.desktop file in Packages/fontforge.desktop. This file includes the mime-types that Fontforge supports. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers intrepid-updates APT policy: (500, 'intrepid-updates'), (500, 'intrepid-security'), (500, 'intrepid-backports'), (500, 'intrepid') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.27-9-generic (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages fontforge depends on: ii libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libfreetype6 2.3.7-2ubuntu1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgif4 4.1.6-4 library for GIF images (library) ii libice6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libjpeg62 6b-14 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libpng12-0 1.2.27-1 PNG library - runtime ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-2 X11 Session Management library ii libspiro0 20071029-2 a library for curve design ii libtiff4 3.8.2-11 Tag Image File Format (TIFF) libra ii libuninameslist 0.0.20060907-2 a library of Unicode annotation da ii libx11-6 2:1.1.5-2ubuntu1 X11 client-side library ii libxml2 2.6.32.dfsg-4ubuntu1.1 GNOME XML library ii python2.5 2.5.2-11.1ubuntu1 An interactive high-level object-o ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-12ubuntu1 compression library - runtime fontforge recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
