retitle 507429 Licence should probably be incorporated in header file severity 507429 normal thanks
Bastien, Thank you for pointing this out. I am not sure I agree that this is a bug. The cfortran.h file says (as you quoted): Bastien ROUCARIES wrote: [from cfortran.h] > THIS FILE IS PROPERTY OF BURKHARD BUROW. IF YOU ARE USING THIS FILE YOU > SHOULD ALSO HAVE ACCESS TO CFORTRAN.DOC WHICH PROVIDES TERMS FOR USING, > MODIFYING, COPYING AND DISTRIBUTING THE CFORTRAN.H PACKAGE. That's all. To the best of my knowledge (IANAL) this just gives the name of the copyright holder (PROPERTY OF BURKHARD BUROW), and says that the license can be found elsewhere. I do not think the above statement is any sort of license because it specifically mentions that the terms for use, modification, copying, and distribution (all of which would be defined by a license) are in cfortran.doc. If you refer to cfortran.doc at /usr/share/doc/cfortran/cfortran.doc.gz you can see that the license at the bottom of that file has been patched in Debian to mention the LGPL: > THIS PACKAGE, I.E. CFORTRAN.H, THIS DOCUMENT, AND THE CFORTRAN.H EXAMPLE > PROGRAMS ARE PROPERTY OF THE AUTHOR WHO RESERVES ALL RIGHTS. THIS PACKAGE AND > THE CODE IT PRODUCES MAY BE FREELY DISTRIBUTED WITHOUT FEES, SUBJECT > (AT YOUR CHOICE) EITHER TO THE GNU LIBRARY GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE > AT http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.html OR TO THE FOLLOWING RESTRICTIONS: [snip non-free original license] It is probably worth clarifying the text of cfortran.h (and further clarifying the text of cfortran.doc) but I don't think that merits an RC severity. So, downgrading. If you (or others) disagree, your comments are welcome of course. -- Kevin B.
