Package: fontconfig-config Version: 2.6.0-3 Followup-For: Bug #506552 Hello,
After another update a few days ago, most Iceweasel fonts are back to readable, after installing 2.6.0-3 again (which broke the fonts before...), and an update to Iceweasel (don't know if that's important, I don't use that many GUI programs, and Iceweasel was the only one I noticed this problem in). On some few pages the "ugly font" is still used, e.g. the <h3>s on http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3471. Debugging this is quite annoying, since the font settings are hidden behind layers of indirection, and my bad habit of using tabs as bookmarks, which makes Iceweasel restarts take some time... Well, one run of Iceweasel with FC_DEBUG=1 showed the offending font to be "VL Gothic". Then I tried to be clever, copied my profile to another (since Iceweasel can't run twice on one profile, and a new one had different font settings), and ran it again, to catch the debug output of only one page. It used Vera, where before VL Gothic was used. So. Loading my crapload of tabs, then anandtech uses VL Gothic on <h3>s. Loading anandtech alone uses Vera. That means loading some fonts changes later font selections? Shouldn't happen, I think. Anyway, this is as much poking in the dark as I am willing to do for now. fontconfig might be very powerful, but it's a pain to configure and debug.
