Hi Faheem,
Faheem Mitha [2008-12-17 0:15 -0500]:
I installed 8.3 on lenny and discovered it is listening on 5433. I
believe 5432 is the standard. This may have something to do with the
fact that other versions of postgres were previously installed, though
I believe I deleted them before installing 8.3.
Apparently you still had a configuration on 5432. Please check with
pg_ctlcluster.
Anyway, there really should be some documentation of the whys and
wherefores of ports handling.
Where would you expect to find it?
Something in README.Debian, possibly pointing elsewhere.
There's general documentation about the architecture in
/usr/share/doc/postgresql-{8.3,common}/README.Debian.gz, as well as
architecture.html and detailled manpages for each command. I'm happy
to improve any of it.
I don't see any discussion of the ports issue anywhere, or how to manage
it. Am I missing it? Should this be going to a mailing list or something?
Regards, Faheem.
