Having the environment variable http_proxy is problematic when wants apt to use a different proxy configuration than other programs that use http_proxy. For instance it is desirable to use an apt proxy to cache .debs but if one has http_prxy the apt proxy is ignored. Also, if one wants to skip a proxy for some sources and not others (e.g. one has a partial mirror) then that is not possible if one has http_proxy set for the benefit of the many other consumers of http_proxy (like wget, lynx, bzr using http, and so on. -- Package-specific info: -- apt-config dump -- APT "";
