It's implemented in current HEAD and you can expect a new release soon. The
default policy is now not opportunistic but
opportunistic-minus-sending-whitespace or manual-plus-handling-whitespace,
whichever way you wanna see it :) The setting mentioned above is implemented and
the default will be something like

*...@localhost opportunistic,*bitlbee* opportunistic,*...@im.* opportunistic

By the way, I've seen your other bug(505269) and I've never observed or heard of
what you describe, namely that irssi-otr spits out stuff to random windows.
Usually it will write stuff to the appropriate query window and if that doesn't
exist to the status window. Maybe you could describe a scenario where this
always happens so I can reproduce it here?!
