This plugin is for both Pidgin and libpurple messengers (such as
finch, adium, etc).

I could probably add pidgin to Suggests. However there may be people
who use finch, who also use this package, who do not want pidgin and
bits of GTK and GNOME pulled in.

What do you think could be done?
