yukk. why do they do this? xorg.conf is a standard and _working_ solution for
this...

- switched to 1400x1050 using xrender
- ran amdcccle, 1400x1050 was listed there as "desktop area"
- logout, xserver restarted (as setup in gdm)
- server came up with 1024x768
- cursed a lot, shutdown the laptop, unplugged power
- < some hours of work in the office >
- returned home, replugged power, switched on laptop
- server came up with 1400x1050
- WTF?!

Xorg.0.log showed: (II) fglrx(0): Restoring recent mode: 1400x1...@60hz

where does fglrx take this information from?

and: I am pretty sure that before the update, the screen was running at
its native resolution. is 1024x768 some default hardcoded in fglrx?
