Right.  I can reproduce the error with your binary; this is probably
caused by DW_AT_ranges support.  The Linux kernel very frequently
triggers this sort of error, because of the use of .init.text; any one
file is likely to have code at two widely separated addresses and GDB
can get confused about things in the middle.

Ah, so I may have to stick to my hand-fixed copy of 6.8 for a while then.
