reassign 514531 iproute thanks On Sun, Feb 08, 2009 at 09:37:13AM -0500, mike wrote: > Package: iproute2 > Version: 2-2.6.18-061002
The package name is iproute rather than iproute2, but that's nothing like the version number of this package in Debian (currently 20080725-2). Are you sure that you're looking at the Debian package and not something else? > Default email address for /sbin/program is [email protected] > > I'm certain that most Debian network information should not be emailed > to this person. > Whether this is Malware or just lazy development, this default should > not be installed to > root; alternatively the default can be removed with the following fix: > > Line 5: [ -z "$mail" ] && [email protected] That really is the e-mail address of Alexey Kuznetsov, who is one of the maintainers of the Linux networking subsystem, not to mention one of the people named in iproute's README file as an author; you can compare the address with that in the Linux kernel's MAINTAINERS file. The only place I can find the text you quote is in the "netbug" program, which as far as I can tell is for the express purpose of reporting a networking bug and does not appear to be run automatically; in that case, defaulting to sending it to a Linux networking maintainer with sufficient information to let him debug whatever the problem is doesn't seem unreasonable. Are you sure you aren't overreacting a bit? Only people who need networking help would use this, and they can hardly expect somebody to help them without some idea of the state of their network. In any case, the "netbug" program no longer exists in the current version of iproute in unstable, which would make this bug obsolete, unless you're talking about some other program that I can't find.
