Package: gnome-media Version: 2.22.0-3 Severity: normal This is an Acer emachines D620 laptop with ATi SB sound chip (Intel HDA, ALC268 Analog codec). After a bit of fiddling (setting model=acer in /etc/ modprobe.d/sound, sorting permissions), sound is working fine for all users (tested on Sound Juicer for CDs and Rhythmbox for streaming audio over the net - volume controls work fine in both). Even the Fn-Up and Fn-Down keys work as volume up and down.
But the Gnome volume control icon (top right panel, by the clock) has a red x on it, and when I double-click it, it says: "No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found." I don't understand this, since everything which is required for controlling volume is installed and working correctly. Grateful if this could be forwarded (if it is actually a bug), or if someone could tell me what is missing or misconfigured (if it's not).
