The menu editing feature works partially. A custom application
cannot be added to the menu. Possibly it is broken. I have personally
tried it with KMenu Editor on KDE 3.5.10 as well as with
Alacarte menu editor in LXDE. When I invoked the Alacarte from the
command-line, the following message was given on the terminal emulator:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/Alacarte/MainWindow.py", line
309, in on_new_item_button_clicked
    process = subprocess.Popen(['gnome-desktop-item-edit', file_path],
env=os.environ)
  File "/usr/lib/python2.5/subprocess.py", line 594, in __init__
    errread, errwrite)
  File "/usr/lib/python2.5/subprocess.py", line 1149, in _execute_child
    raise child_exception
OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory

Unfortunately, I personally am a novice, and this is my first
bug-report. So, if there are some mistakes, please excuse me.
