The same issue happens with GNOME 2.24 and enabling g-v-m multiuser feature doesn't fix the issue. Automounting features having been moved to nautilus, I guess this bug should be reassigned to nautilus once 2.24 reaches unstable? Should a new bug be reported against nautilus?
