 dpkg -c network-manager-gnome_0.6.6-4_i386.deb | grep nm-no-connection

So you see, the icon is shipped in the package. My only guess is, that
it's a problem with the icon cache. Do you have a file
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/icon-theme.cache and does it help if you delete
that?

As far as I can see, it's not a bug in network-manager-gnome itself.
