You're correct, that question is not made, but it's enough to use
<host>:<port> when specifying smtphost (as you can see in
/usr/share/doc/reportbug/README.Users for gmail configuration).

So, do you think that explicitly clarifying it in the sentence

"Please enter the name of your SMTP host. Usually it's called
something like "mail.example.org" or "smtp.example.org". Just press
ENTER if you don't have one or don't know."

would solve the ambiguity and so it have made it clear to you what you
have had to do?
