I did not use dist-upgrade (remembering the problems with that in the upgrade process from sarge to etch), but changed the sources.list to lenny and did apt-get upgrade and apt-get install several times. I did no reboot, just stopped X. Now after reboot pidgin crashes with segfault. Of course it is possible that I made a mistake in the upgrading process.
