For a multi-OS puppet installation, use the "operatingsystem" and "operatingsystemrelease" facts.
For a linux-only puppet installation, you can use the included "lsb*" facts instead, as long as you have the "lsb-release" package installed, "facter lsbdiscodename" will give you these versions. This bug can probably be closed. -- Stig Sandbeck Mathisen
