I like this idea.  I propose that we rewrite the script in Perl,
though, not because I have anything against Python, but rather because
all of the rest of the package is in Perl and I don't want to
introduce the complexity of having to have dependencies on both Perl
and Python packages.

If it's intended to be machine processed, would the possibility of
machine-readable output be useful too?
