After having forced a user to log out from its session, the timeoutd daemon crashes so that the user can login back and continue to work as long as he desires. This bug has been reported in Ubuntu launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/timeoutd/+bug/165254 and the corresponding patch is available at: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18225966/fix_local_x.patch I applied this patch to the Debian source package and the problem disappeared. It seems to be due to changes in the utmp structure (this is the patch author's explanation). -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages timeoutd depends on: ii libc6 2.7-18 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libx11-6 2:1.1.5-2 X11 client-side library ii libxss1 1:1.1.3-1 X11 Screen Saver extension library timeoutd recommends no packages. timeoutd suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
