This was a "try of a solution", which however worked for me completely.

Whenever I put "dbus-launch x-session-manager &" in my ~/.vnc/xstartup, GNOME
works just fine like before with version 2.22.0-1 of gconf2.

My /etc/X11/Xsession.options is in an unmodified state as per 
package-installation.
