The debian package does not contain the file mtx.tex. The consequence is that invoking pmx after prepmx will report: ... === RUNNING MUSIXTEX: 1st pass (tex) === This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (Web2C 7.4.5) (./xxxxxxx.tex ! I can't find file `mtx'. l.8 \input mtx I downloaded the source distribution of m-tx and put mtx.tex into the directory where I had the files to process, and then it worked.
